A state-of-the-art 650-bed Command Hospital was virtually inaugurated today in Udhampur by General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff, in the presence of Army and civil dignitaries.
The massive 274 crore rupee facility, spanning 60 acres, showcases modern infrastructure designed to meet the healthcare needs of defense personnel in Jammu and Kashmir. The main hospital building has a basement, ground floor, and four floors equipped with eight operating theaters, medical gas pipelines, fire safety systems, central air conditioning, and advanced treatment facilities.
“This new Command Hospital is a game-changer that will provide top-notch medical care to our soldiers and families in this region,” said Gen. Pande in his inaugural address. “Its modern amenities and sustainable design focused on environmental responsibility set a new standard.”
The complex features accommodations for staff, training facilities, guest suites, a community center, and plans for a library and gym. An effluent treatment plant and sewage recycling system ensure responsible water management. Construction faced challenges like basement flooding which were overcome by collaborating with experts from IIT Jammu. Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi, Army Commander, Northern Command expressed gratitude for support received, calling this “a momentous day marking a new era in healthcare for defense personnel in J&K.” The additional 200 beds during crises will greatly boost medical readiness in this strategic area.
