The Deputy Commissioner Jammu has withdrawn some clause of recently issued ‘controversial’ order allowing the non-resident of J&K with one year stay “as eligible voters”, after resentment from political parties of J&K including NC, PDP and DAP.
However, officially it has not been confirmed by the authorities, but the news of withdrawal of some clause, is taking round on social media. The Hidden News, will update the story as and when official statement comes
The DC Jammu Avny Lavasa in an order vide no. 01-DEOJ of 2022, dated 11/10/2022 issued guidelines for Special Summary Revisions,2022, wherein the individual residing more than one year in Jammu to enlist as Voters.
This order created massive outcry and raging controversy across the UT of Jammu and Kashmir with the opposition parties termed it’s a brazen ploy to allow outsiders to cast votes and nothing else.
But, PDP Chief and Ex Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti termed the order “Centre’s colonial settler project initiated.” PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday flayed the Election Commission’s order for registration of new voters in Jammu, charging that the Centre’s “colonial settler project” has been initiated in the region”, The Telegraph reported quoting, Mehbooba.
“Attempts to create religious and regional divisions between Jammu and Kashmir must be “thwarted” because “whether its a Kashmiri or a Dogra, safeguarding our identity and rights will be possible only if we put up a collective fight”, she alleged.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who newly announced Democratic Azad Party, on Wednesday said that those who are outsiders should not be allowed to cast their vote in the Union Territory.
“People outside shouldn’t cast their vote in the UT. Only local voters should be allowed. They can vote in their states in a sealed envelope, as per the system. The importance of voting in Jammu and Kashmir has been that only locals vote – be it Jammu or Kashmir”, The Print had reported, quoting Azad.
Whoever, the J&K BJP Chief Ravinder Raina justified the order saying, “NC, PDP conspiring to mislead people of over J&K voter list. “According to the People’s Representation Act 1951, any person can add his name to the place where he has been residing for a long time after removing his name the electoral roll”, he added.
As the simmering discontent coupled with seething with anger refusing to die down as such Deputy Commissioner withdrawn its order of allowing the Tehsildars across the Jammu to conduct field visits and then issue the residence certificates but this order doesn’t augur well for the opposition parties as well civil society. The opposition too stepped it’s ante against the government as they termed that they continue to oppose such move of the government whereby they allowed outsiders to decide the fate of our elections which we can’t allowed them to succeed in their hidden agendas.
Since all laws Law made by the parliament of India are applicable in J&K post deoperationalisation of Articles 370, 35A on 5th August, 2019. Any citizen of India is entitled to enroll him/her self as voter in J&K
