The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday attached six immovable properties belonging to Asif Ahmed Malik, a top terrorist of the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, in Jammu and Kashmir.
The attached land parcels are located in the Mirpora and Pulwama areas of the union territory. The properties were attached under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on orders of the NIA Special Court in Jammu.
Malik was arrested on January 31, 2020 in a case related to the transportation of terrorists, infiltration into Kashmir from across the border, and seizure of arms and explosives from Jaish operatives. He was chargesheeted by the NIA in July 2020 under various laws including the IPC, Explosive Substances Act, UAPA and Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act. His trial is currently underway.
Investigations by the NIA have revealed a conspiracy by Malik and other accused to transport infiltrated terrorists to the Kashmir Valley and provide them safe shelter to carry out attacks on security forces as part of a broader terror conspiracy against India.
The Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist group was formed by Masood Azhar in 2000 and is headquartered in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Since its inception, JeM has executed several terror attacks in India, especially in Jammu and Kashmir. It was designated a foreign terrorist organization by the UN Security Council in 2001, while Azhar was declared a global terrorist by the UNSC in 2019.
