In a landmark diplomatic rendezvous, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India rolled out the red carpet to welcome Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece and his accompanying delegation to New Delhi.
The visit, marked by friendship and strategic discussions, highlighted the burgeoning partnership between the two nations, further solidifying the groundwork laid during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Greece last year.
During the bilateral talks, both leaders delved into many crucial subjects aimed at bolstering cooperation and fortifying ties between India and Greece. Prime Minister Modi expressed his contentment with the rapid strides made towards the ambitious goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2030, underscoring the plethora of collaborative prospects identified in the process.
“We are steadfastly progressing towards our objective of doubling bilateral trade by 2030,” stated Prime Minister Modi and added, “Our deliberations today were immensely significant and fruitful. We have identified several novel avenues to infuse fresh vigor and direction into our collaboration.”
Diversification emerged as a key theme, as both leaders explored potential partnerships across various sectors including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, technology, innovation, skill development, and space exploration. Recognizing the mutual benefits, they also discussed initiatives to interlink the startup ecosystems of both nations.
“We highlighted the imperative of enhancing collaboration in diverse sectors such as Pharma, Medical Devices, Technology, Innovation, Skill Development, and Space,” Prime Minister Modi added.
The discussions also spotlighted the augmentation of defense and security cooperation, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to mutual trust and coordination in addressing common challenges such as defense, cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, and maritime security. “Our burgeoning collaboration in defense and security epitomizes the deep mutual trust between our nations,” Prime Minister Modi emphasized. “The avenues for co-production and co-development emerging in defense manufacturing in India hold promise for both countries.”
Underlining the rich cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Greece, Prime Minister Modi stressed the need for modernizing and deepening these relations. Initiatives such as the Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement, fostering cooperation between higher education institutions, and plans to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries were on the agenda.
“As two ancient and illustrious civilizations, India and Greece share a storied history of profound cultural and people-to-people connections,” noted Prime Minister Modi. “Today, we have identified several new initiatives to contemporize these relations.” On the regional and international front, both leaders echoed the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. They welcomed Greece’s active engagement in the Indo-Pacific and concurred on collaborating on initiatives such as the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative and fostering cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
