In a resounding display of India’s indigenous defence capabilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi bore witness to a Tri-Services Live Fire and Manoeuvre Exercise held in Pokhran, Rajasthan.
The event, titled ‘Bharat Shakti’, showcased a range of homegrown weapon systems and platforms, symbolizing the nation’s commitment to self-reliance under the Aatmanirbharata initiative.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi underscored the significance of the event, stating, “Today, once again Pokhran became a witness of the triveni of India’s Aatmnirbharta, self-confidence, and its glory.” He reminisced about Pokhran’s historical role in India’s nuclear testing and highlighted the present demonstration of strength through indigenization.
Referring to the recent test firing of the long-range AGNI missile equipped with advanced MIRV technology, the Prime Minister emphasized India’s unique position in possessing such cutting-edge capabilities. He stressed the importance of reducing dependence on external sources and hailed the ongoing efforts towards self-reliance across various sectors, including defence.
“The idea of Viksit Bharat is unimaginable without aatmanirbhar Bharat,” remarked Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing the nation’s resolve to bolster indigenous production across all domains. He praised the achievements in defence indigenization, citing examples ranging from tanks to fighter jets, submarines, and missile systems, all proudly made in India.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives for fostering self-reliance in defence, Prime Minister Modi outlined policy reforms, private sector involvement, and support for MSME startups in the field. He commended the Chiefs of all three forces for their contributions and announced significant investments in defence corridors and manufacturing facilities.
“Aatmanirbharta for India’s defence needs is the guarantee of self-confidence in the armed forces,” stated Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing the intrinsic link between indigenous production and military preparedness. He celebrated the transformation of India from a defense importer to an emerging exporter, signaling a paradigm shift in the country’s defence landscape.
Reflecting on the progress made since 2014, Prime Minister Modi highlighted reforms in ordnance factories, the revitalization of HAL, and the establishment of crucial infrastructure and institutions in the defence sector. He also lauded the implementation of One Rank One Pension, benefiting thousands of defence personnel, including 1.75 lakh individuals from Rajasthan alone. In closing, Prime Minister Modi envisioned a future where India’s economic growth propels its defence capabilities to unprecedented heights. He expressed gratitude to Rajasthan for its role in this journey, asserting that a developed Rajasthan would strengthen the nation’s armed forces.
The event was attended by Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister for Defence, Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff, Gen Manoj Pandey, Chief of Air Force Staff, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, and Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, among other dignitaries. With ‘Bharat Shakti’ echoing through the sands of Pokhran, India reaffirmed its commitment to self-reliance and prowess on the global stage.
