Sequence: 1st resignation, 2nd will join BJP, 3rd to contest polls against Mehbooba, Omar and now threats from DGP Dilgbah Singh, Rath shares on social media
After a gap of at least two years, when IPS Officer Basant Kumar Rath was placed under suspension by the Ministry of Home Affairs for “gross misconduct and misbehaviour”, he is again crossing the line to grab public attention, through his social media posts.
Three days back, on Saturday (June 25) at 4;20am, a letter addressed to Chief Secretary Jammu Kashmir Government, went viral when Rath shared on copy on social media, requesting government for voluntary retirement. After around 44 minutes of he wrote letter, Rath also tweeted that if he would join a political party, it would BJP, if ever he contests an election, it would be from Kashmir and if ever, he joins politics, it would be before March 6, 2024.
“He Basant Rath gets a raw deal on social media, Kashmiris reject him, even before he quit government services and joins politics officially”, a senior government functionary said that he being senior officer, damaging country’s reputation.
“It is a national defamation, certainly, the international media, especially the enemy nations will exploit these issues, as he time and again making foolish act”, he said, adding that if he has any grievance, he should explore legal option rather than defaming DGP Jammu Kashmir Police.
“It looks personal issue with the Police Chief, that’s why he is attacking him in past (prior to his suspension), he had levelled many allegations against DGP Dilbagh Singh, after repeated warnings from MHA, he once again indulged in same practice, which was not supposed to be repeated after government’s action”, he added.
