In an another purchase, Suture material worth 8Cr rupees gathered dust at JKMSCL’s warehouse for more than one year

Principal and Dean, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudhan has constituted five member inquiry committee headed by the Administrator, Associated Hospital Jammu (AHJ) to conduct indepth inquiry into excess purchase of staplers by the Surgery Department.
“A committee comprising of the following Officers/Doctors Administrator, AHJ Chairman, Medical Superintendent, GMCH Member Secretary, Dr. Satish Parihar, Associate Professor, Surgery Member, Dr. Mohd. Riaz, Associate Professor, Surgery Member and Dr. Vikrant Singh, Associate Professor, Surgical Gastroenterology Member Further, Medical Officer Stores, GMCH, is hereby constituted to conduct an lndepth Inquiry regarding excess purchase of staplers through the J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL) by Department of Surgery, GMC Jammu”, order no.GMC/23/Committee/order/1287, dated 04/05/2023.
“The committee shall conduct the indepth Inquiry and submit the report regarding, how and on what basis excess numbers of staplers were purchased through JKMSCL by Department of Surgery and fix responsibility for the same to bring accountability in the purchases. Give opinion regarding the annual requirement of the staplers in question in the Department of Surgery based on expected average annual usage/Expiry Date etc., so that the same number can be supplied to the Department and the remaining can be used somewhere else in view of the expiry date of the staplers. The committee shall submit its report within period of two weeks positively to the office of the undersigned for further necessary action”, the order further reads.
However, sources informed The Hidden News, in another ‘scam’ for commission the GMC Jammu had placed a huge order for purchase of Suture material, through JMSCL, but the material gathered dust at the JKMSCL’s Nagrota drug warehouse, with some items with short expiry date, i.e. September, October and November 2023, these items were purchased by JKMSCL in April 2022.
“A whistle-blower brought this scam in the notice of the higher authorities, and the Secretary Health and Medical Education, Bhupinder Kumar taking cognizance non-seriousness GMC authorities, called a meeting with Principal GMC Jammu, MD JKMSCL and other concerned officers. After this meeting a team of doctors from GMC Jammu visited, JKMSCL’s Nagorta Drug warehouse and the entire consignment gathering dust shifted to GMC Jammu”, the whistle- blower, fought for cause of masses told The Hidden News.
“I’m glad that the initiative I took in larger public interest, yielded desirable results. I thank to Secretary, HME, Bhupinder Kumar, Principal GMC Jammu Dr Shashi Shudan and MD JKMSCL, Pankaj Gupta and those who made it happen, but cannot be named, they deserve more appreciation in this case”, he said, adding that however, the JKMSCL had been repeatedly raising the issue with GMC authorities, but things get settled after the intervention of Secretary, HME Bhupinder Kumar.
