The residents of Mohalla Ramzan Pura, falling under Ward No. 60 of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), have raised concerns over the deteriorating sanitation conditions in their locality. Inhabitants are seeking the intervention of JMC Commissioner Rahul Yadav to address the urgent issue promptly.
A recent visit to Ramzanpura revealed a grim picture of poor sanitation, with choked drains and dust accumulating in the lanes, causing inconvenience to the residents. Despite the nationwide Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative, the inhabitants lament their area’s lack of attention to cleanliness.
Residents shared images of the choked drains, illustrating the challenges they face due to the indifferent attitude of the concerned JMC wing. The residents expressed dissatisfaction with the sanitation staff’s response, stating that despite multiple complaints, there has been no improvement in the sanitation conditions.
The inhabitants compare their situation to a popular saying, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness,” emphasizing the essential role of sanitation in a community. They underscore the failure of the concerned JMC wing to fulfill its mandatory duty, causing hardships for the residents.
An anonymous resident acknowledged the prompt action taken by the JMC Commissioner in response to a previous complaint about a garbage dumping site in another ward. The resident urged similar swift action to address the sanitation issues in Ward No. 60, emphasizing the need for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan implementation.
Residents complained about the irregularity in the visits by sanitation staff, alleging that sweepers rarely show up and only during festive seasons to avoid notice. The lack of regular cleaning has led to foul smells emanating from the drains, making it difficult for residents to walk on the roads.
Concerns were raised about the sanitation staff’s claim of not having spades to clean drains, with residents questioning why such essential tools are not provided by the sanitation wing. The residents argue that the officials must discharge their duties with dedication and devotion, as the regular feature of sanitation is essential for the well-being of the community.
Residents are urging the JMC Commissioner to deploy sweepers regularly in Ward No. 60, ensuring that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan becomes a consistent practice. The continuous poor sanitation conditions are seen as a violation of the fundamental right under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.
Inhabitants seek the immediate attention of the JMC Commissioner to alleviate their hardships and improve the sanitation conditions in Ramzanpura.
