Amidst a wave of enthusiasm and fervor, the District Administration of Rajouri, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department and together with civil society members observed the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking here today. The event, held at PWD Dakbunglow, saw a multitude of activities aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. From an antidrug rally to a signature campaign and launch of a mobile anti-drug awareness van, the event was a resounding success, with participants expressing their satisfaction at the level of engagement and awareness generated by the celebrations.
Addressing the event, SSP, Amrit Pal Singh, emphasized that drug abuse and trafficking are not only social and health issues but are also major law enforcement challenges. He further stated that effective collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public is crucial in identifying and taking action against drug peddlers and traffickers.
He also stressed the importance of creating a safe and secure environment for all members of the community, especially the youth. He called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to play an active role in preventing drug abuse and trafficking, and urged them to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse.
The Chief Guest of the event, the Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri, Vikas Kundal in his speech emphasized the need for collective action to combat the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He highlighted the fact that drug addiction is a complex issue that affects not just the individual but also their families and communities.
The Deputy Commissioner also stated that drug abuse is a serious public health problem that requires a comprehensive approach involving education, prevention, treatment, and law enforcement. The DC, Vikas Kundal also spoke about the importance of awareness and education in preventing drug abuse and trafficking. He stressed the need for parents, teachers, and community leaders to work together to provide young people with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices and avoid the pitfalls of drug addiction. He also said that the district administration is committed to providing educational and treatment resources to those affected by drug abuse and that it would continue to work towards a drug-free society. As part of the celebrations, an antidrug rally and an anti drug mobile van were also organized and flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner. The rally, which was attended by a large number of students sought to spread the message of drug-free living and the need for a healthy and productive lifestyle.
