Responding to media queries regarding the alleged assassination attempt on senior political leader Farooq Abdullah, senior political figure Ajat Shatru Singh, grandson of Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh, termed the incident a serious security lapse and called for urgent corrective measures while strongly advocating restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh praised the swift response of security personnel present at the scene, stating that their timely action prevented a major tragedy.
“This is a very serious lapse. The security and police personnel who acted promptly and averted a major tragedy deserve recognition. If the government does not honour them, I am ready to felicitate them personally,” Singh said while speaking to reporters.
Raising concern over the growing drug menace, Singh warned that narcotics abuse among youth is contributing to rising crime and social instability in Jammu.
“We have already seen what drugs did to Punjab. Similar signs are now visible in Jammu. Crime, misconduct against women and theft are increasing. This appears to be a conspiracy against our younger generation,” he said.
He urged authorities to take strict action to eliminate drug networks and protect youth from falling into addiction.
“The government must act firmly. Strong steps are needed from both the Centre and the administration to end this menace from Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Emphasising the political aspirations of the people, Singh reiterated the demand for restoration of full statehood, stating that it would strengthen governance and ensure balanced regional development. “People want the restoration of our previous state status. Statehood will bring administrative stability and faster development for Jammu, Kashmir and all regions. The sooner it is restored, the better it will be for everyone,” he said.
