According to SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma, the victims were predominantly pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh. The attack took place near the Kanda area, where terrorists opened fire on the bus, causing the driver to lose control. As a result, the bus veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. Immediate rescue efforts were launched by locals and police who rushed to the scene. “The Shiv Khori shrine was secured by police, but this unfortunate incident in which innocent pilgrims lost their lives has shocked us,” SSP Sharma told the media.

Following the incident, the injured were initially taken to the Community Health Centre in Teryath. Those critically injured were later transferred to Narayana Hospital in Katra and the Government Medical College & Hospital in Jammu. Preliminary reports indicate that the terrorists’ gunfire led to the catastrophic accident. “At least 11 pilgrims have died so far,” said an health official at CHC Teryath, though the exact number of casualties and injuries remains uncertain as rescue operations continue.

Local authorities are still piecing together the details of the attack and assessing the condition of the remaining passengers. “We are currently focused on rescue operations and ensuring the injured receive immediate medical attention,” a police official stated. “An official statement with more detailed information will be released soon.”

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and panic as gunfire erupted. “It was horrifying. The bus lost control after the shots were fired, and it just went over the edge,” recounted one witness who narrowly escaped the attack. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the terrorists. Additional forces have been deployed to ensure the safety of the remaining pilgrims and locals. This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community, particularly among those who annually visit the revered Shiv Khori shrine. The local administration has appealed for calm and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to handle the situation and prevent further incidents.

As the nation awaits official confirmation and further details, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. This attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region and highlights the urgent need for heightened vigilance to protect innocent lives from such heinous acts of violence.
