In a devastating incident, a bus transporting pilgrims from Shiv Khori to Katra was ambushed by terrorists, resulting in a tragic loss of life. The ambush occurred in between Kanda-Chandi Morh area, within the jurisdiction of the Pouni Police Station in Reasi district.

According to SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma, the victims were predominantly pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh. The attack took place near the Kanda area, where terrorists opened fire on the bus, causing the driver to lose control. As a result, the bus veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. Immediate rescue efforts were launched by locals and police who rushed to the scene. “The Shiv Khori shrine was secured by police, but this unfortunate incident in which innocent pilgrims lost their lives has shocked us,” SSP Sharma told the media.
Following the incident, the injured were initially taken to the Community Health Centre in Teryath. Those critically injured were later transferred to Narayana Hospital in Katra and the Government Medical College & Hospital in Jammu. Preliminary reports indicate that the terrorists’ gunfire led to the catastrophic accident. “At least 11 pilgrims have died so far,” said an health official at CHC Teryath, though the exact number of casualties and injuries remains uncertain as rescue operations continue.
Local authorities are still piecing together the details of the attack and assessing the condition of the remaining passengers. “We are currently focused on rescue operations and ensuring the injured receive immediate medical attention,” a police official stated. “An official statement with more detailed information will be released soon.”
