Lahaul Spiti Police, renowned for their innovative community policing and honored with the prestigious SKOCH Award earlier this year, have once again proven their commitment to public service. In a heroic rescue operations conducted over 48 hours, the district police saved more than 1,000 tourists trapped in snow across the picturesque but treacherous terrain of Lahaul Spiti.
The rescue operations, conducted between December 23-24, successfully cleared over 400 stranded vehicles carrying tourists who had flocked to the region from the plains to enjoy the winter wonderland. According to a police spokesperson, the operation covered multiple locations, including KuthBihal, Koksar, Sissu, ATR North Portal, and the perilous Pagal Naala.
“SP Lahaul Spiti, Mayank Chaudhary, supervising the rescue operations efforts on the ground, ensuring swift action and coordination,” the spokesperson said. The young and dynamic IPS officer’s leadership has been instrumental in bolstering the district’s emergency response capabilities.
The police not only ensured the safety of the stranded tourists but also cleared snow to facilitate the movement of vehicles, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring public safety in one of the country’s most challenging terrains.
