In a harrowing incident on the slopes of Gulmarg’s Army Ridge, an avalanche proved fatal for a Russian skier, while a collaborative rescue effort led to the successful retrieval of six other Russian skiers and a local guide.

“Despite the valiant efforts of our rescue team, we are deeply saddened to confirm the loss of one Russian skier in the avalanche,” stated an official from the Gulmarg Ski Patrol of the Tourism Department, J&K. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” the official added.

The joint operation between the Gulmarg Ski Patrol and the J&K Police was instrumental in swiftly rescuing the survivors from the treacherous conditions triggered by the avalanche. “The coordination between the rescue teams was exemplary,” remarked a member of the J&K Police involved in the operation. “We are grateful that despite the tragic outcome for one individual, we were able to successfully rescue six others and the local guide,” the officer added. The avalanche, which occurred far from the ongoing 4th Khelo India Winter Games in the Kongdoori area, had no impact on the sporting events, ensuring the safety of participants and spectators alike.

As the rescued individuals receive medical attention under the supervision of the district administration, authorities emphasize the importance of safety protocols in mountainous regions prone to avalanches.

“Our priority now is to ensure the well-being of those affected by this unfortunate incident,” affirmed a representative from the district administration. “We urge all visitors to the region to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent similar tragedies,” the representative concluded. The tragic loss serves as a somber reminder of the inherent risks associated with mountain sports, underscoring the importance of preparedness and vigilance in such environments. As investigations into the incident continue, the community mourns the loss of a fellow adventurer while expressing gratitude for the successful rescue efforts that saved multiple lives.

Identity of killed skier and other yet to be made public by the autohrities.
