A landmark tripartite agreement was inked today in the presence of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, marking a historic milestone in the journey towards resolving indigenous issues in Tripura.
The agreement, signed between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance/TIPRA, commonly known as Tripra Motha, alongside other stakeholders, was hailed as a significant step forward in addressing longstanding grievances and fostering harmony in the region. Addressing the momentous occasion, Amit Shah emphasized the historical significance of the agreement, stating that it represents a bridge between the past and the future, acknowledging past mistakes while embracing present realities. He commended the constructive role played by Tripra Motha and all tribal parties in facilitating the agreement.
Highlighting the commitment of the Tripura government towards realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India, Shri Shah expressed optimism about Tripura’s role in contributing to the nation’s progress. Underlining the efforts of the Ministry of Home Affairs in fostering peace and development in the Northeast region, he noted the significant strides made towards achieving an insurgency-free and violence-free environment through various agreements.
Amit Shah reflected on the series of agreements brokered by the Modi government, including the recent ones such as the Bru-Reang agreement and border agreements, emphasizing the government’s dedication to resolving longstanding disputes and ensuring the welfare of all citizens. He declared that with the signing of today’s agreement, Tripura is poised to embark on a journey towards becoming a dispute-free state, with the assurance of government support in protecting the rights of all individuals.
The agreement aims to address a range of issues affecting the indigenous people of Tripura, encompassing historical, land, and political rights, economic development, identity, culture, and language. A Joint Working Group/Committee will be constituted to implement the mutually agreed points within a specified timeframe, fostering an environment conducive to the pact’s implementation by refraining from protests or agitations.
Representing TIPRA, the agreement was signed by Pradyot Debbarma, Founder TIPRA, among others. Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of Tripura were also present during the signing ceremony, underscoring the collective commitment towards achieving peace and prosperity in Tripura.
