The Jammu region of J&K has been gripped by fear and heightened tensions following a wave of terrorist strikes within a span of just three days. In a serious escalation of violence, a series of attacks have left security forces on high alert and the local population reeling. The latest incident occurred on Wednesday in Doda district, where three security personnel sustained injuries during an exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces at a joint checkpoint. This followed a daring attack on Tuesday evening in Kathua district, where a terrorist opened fire while security forces conducted operations to track down a militant hiding in Saida Sukhal village.
These brazen assaults come on the heels of a deadly terrorist strike on Sunday in Reasi district. A bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to Katra was targeted, causing the vehicle to plunge into a deep gorge, killing nine devotees and injuring 41 others. Authorities have responded swiftly, ramping up security measures across the volatile region. However, the situation remains tense as terrorists continue to strike at soft targets with impunity.
“One of the terrorists tried to hurl a grenade and was killed in the exchange of fire, while the second terrorist is reported to be hiding in the village,” stated Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, regarding the ongoing operation in Kathua’s Saida Sukhal. In a separate incident near the International Border on Tuesday, a suspected Pakistani terrorist was neutralized by security forces after ultras attacked a village, injuring a civilian. As the Jammu region grapples with this fresh wave of terror, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether the cycle of violence can be broken or if the region will continue to be held hostage by the ever-looming threat of terrorist atrocities.
