Lt Governor Chairs Review Meeting of Home Department
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today chaired a high-level meeting to assess the functioning of the Home Department in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to Lt Governor Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP J&K RR Swain, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, and other senior officials. The Lt Governor was briefed on various aspects, including the security grid, establishment of a Police Data Centre, modernization of forensic capabilities, and projects under Security Related Expenditure (SRE). Sinha directed the officials to ensure the installation and operational efficiency of fire safety equipment in government and public buildings across the Union Territory.
The meeting deliberated on operationalizing drug de-addiction centers and measures to tackle the drug menace plaguing J&K. “We have adopted a policy of Zero Tolerance against drugs to make J&K drug-free. The police, civil administration, and people should work together to eliminate this menace,” the Lt Governor asserted. Discussions were held on strengthening the police and allied organizations. The Lt Governor also reviewed measures taken by the department for implementing new criminal laws, which will come into effect from July 1, 2024. He instructed the department to provide proper training to police personnel on the new laws. Emphasizing efficient prison management, Sinha took stock of the progress of projects under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP). The Lt Governor stressed the need for coordinated efforts by all stakeholders to address the drug problem and ensure effective law enforcement in the Union Territory.
