A vegetable vendor in Kalakote town of district Rajouri in J&K last committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance, family members and relatives of the deceased blocked Rajouri-Reasi road demanding justice for the family. Sunil Kumar a vegetable vendor in Kalakote town and a resident of Sair Kalakote, consumed some poisonous substance. The family members and the relatives of the deceased blocked Reasi-Rajouri National High near Thermal Gate this morning demanding justice for the victim’s family. They (family) alleged that he (Sunil Kumar) was being harassed by the Kalakote Police.

“A complaint against, Sunil Kumar was lodged at Police station Kalakote, by a widow, namely Safia Begum resident of DC Colony Rajouri, that she had wrongly transferred an amount of Rs 44,000 in the bank account of (deceased), Sunil Kumar, she had approached him but he was not willing to return the money”, sources in Police told the Hidden News, adding based on Complaint lodged by the woman, the Police summoned Sunil Kumar. “It was a routine matter, he was summoned and asked to returned the money transferred in his bank account accidentally, to the woman”, said Police sources, adding that Kalakote Police have also registered a case under section 174 to investigate the matter (suicide committed by the vegetable vendor).

The sources also rejected that no suspension of any Police official has been ordered yet. “Since there was no fault on the part of any Police official, no suspension has been ordered yet”, the official said. Meanwhile, the suicide is being politicised by some irresponsible people. “Efforts are being made to give political colour to the ‘unfortunate’ step taken by the lone bread earner of a family,” said a senior Police officer of district Police Rajouri. “Despite being blamed, Rajouri Police still stands with the victim family. Investigation is on and no compromise will be made in the process. An open-ended investigation has begun into the case,” the officer said.
