Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JKBADC), expressed serious concern over the dilapidated condition of heritage buildings and monuments in border areas of J&K especially in twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Laying stress on importance for preservation of these buildings of historical significance, JKBADC urged the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) and government of Jammu and Kashmir to adopt scientific methods to preserve and protect these constructions.
Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman of the BADC and former Vice Chancellor of the University also while making a fervent appeal to the government said that these historic monuments are the keyholes to peep the human history to connect with the future with regard not only to tradition and culture but also for learning technological aspects of the past.
He said these historic buildings including forts and shrines are the witness of our ancestors’ history and even today they can serve as showcase to the outer world and have lot of tourism potential thus government must consider in preservation of these monuments and bringing them on tourism map of J & K. He said already huge loss has been caused to the heritage building near Line of Control and Border thus it is high time that during peace time we take measures to safeguard them.
