In a major crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Srinagar successfully apprehended Mehraj U Din Wani, the in-charge of the date of birth section at SDH Hospital in Sopore.
The arrest comes following an alleged case of bribery involving Wani and a local resident, Farooq Ahmad Misger.
Official sources reveal that Wani was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3600 from Farooq Ahmad Misger. Misger had approached Wani to obtain a birth certificate for his daughter, and Wani, exploiting his position, insisted on the illegal payment as a condition for processing the document.
The CBI Anti-Corruption Branch acted swiftly upon receiving information about the illicit transaction, orchestrating a well-coordinated operation that led to Wani’s apprehension. The accused official now faces charges related to corruption and abuse of authority.
Further investigation into the case has been initiated by the CBI to uncover the extent of the corruption and determine if there are additional individuals involved. Authorities are committed to ensuring a thorough and impartial inquiry to bring all those responsible to justice.
This incident underscores the CBI’s dedication to rooting out corruption within public institutions and sending a strong message that such activities will not be tolerated. The arrest of the SDH Hospital official serves as a warning to those who engage in corrupt practices, emphasizing the consequences they may face for undermining the integrity of public services.
