Anjana Panwar, the Vice Chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamchari (NCSK), led a crucial meeting at the Spiritual Growth Centre, SMVDSB Katra, aimed at reviewing and enhancing measures for the welfare and development of Safai Karamcharis in the district.
The meeting was attended by key officials including District Development Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan, Director of Urban Local Bodies Punit Sharma, SDM Katra Piyush Dhotra, Chief Medical Officer, and CEO Executive Officers of Municipal Committees from Reasi and Katra, alongside other senior officers from various departments.
Commencing with an introduction by the Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Katra, Rajat Abrol, the meeting underscored the significance of sanitation works in upholding public health and cleanliness standards in Katra. During the deliberations, Vice Chairperson Anjana Panwar meticulously reviewed the diverse initiatives being undertaken by different departments for the welfare of Safai Karamcharis. She engaged with representatives from various Safai Karamchari Associations, attentively listening to their concerns and ensuring swift resolution of their genuine grievances.
Panwar directed the concerned departments to provide uniforms, shoes, and raincoats to Safai Karamcharis on a seasonal basis. She emphasized the imperative to fill vacant Safai Karamchari positions promptly and advocated for the creation of new posts within departments, stressing the importance of regular appointments.
Furthermore, she instructed the Executive Officers of Municipal Committees in Reasi and Katra to conduct monthly interactions with Safai Karamcharis to address their issues directly. She highlighted the significance of appointing Karamcharis from their local communities.
In terms of remuneration, Panwar directed the timely disbursement of salaries by the 5th of every month and urged officials to explore avenues for enhancing existing wages. She also mandated the construction of a community hall for Safai Karamcharis, with provisions for a digital library.
She emphasized the necessity of providing comprehensive healthcare services to Safai Karamcharis during health camps organized by the Health department. Panwar stressed the importance of extending group insurance coverage and Ayushman Health Cards to all eligible Safai Karamcharis, ensuring they can access and benefit from these vital schemes.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to prioritize the well-being and empowerment of Safai Karamcharis, reaffirming the NCSK’s dedication to promoting dignity and equity in their livelihoods.
