‘PM’s rally attended by large number of government employees’
The Congress party has raised concerns over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Jammu & Kashmir, asserting that it failed to address critical issues affecting the region.
In a statement following the Prime Minister’s speech in Srinagar, the party criticized what it termed as the government’s neglect of pressing concerns such as the restoration of statehood, democracy, land and job rights, unemployment, and price rise.
“Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jammu & Kashmir has left the people disappointed,” remarked a senior member of the Congress party. “Despite the high expectations, the Prime Minister’s speech failed to acknowledge the gravity of the challenges facing the region.”
The Congress party, speaking at an official rally attended by a significant number of government employees, accused the Prime Minister of resorting to political rhetoric rather than addressing the substantive issues. “The Prime Minister’s speech seemed more like a pre-election rally targeting opposition parties rather than a genuine attempt to address the concerns of the people,” remarked Ravinder Sharma, Senior Vice President incharge media of the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC).
Sharma further questioned the Prime Minister’s emphasis on highlighting projects initiated during the UPA regime while overlooking significant developmental achievements under previous governments, including those led by the BJP. “It is disheartening to see the Prime Minister claim credit for certain projects while ignoring the broader developmental landscape of Jammu & Kashmir,” Sharma stated.
The Congress party also expressed disappointment over the lack of relief measures for unemployed youth, daily wage workers, and contractual, and temporary employees during the Prime Minister’s visit. They raised concerns about the Agniveer scheme, which has reportedly dashed the aspirations of many aspiring youth in the region.
In addition to criticizing the government’s approach towards addressing unemployment and welfare issues, the Congress urged the Prime Minister to investigate allegations of recruitment scams and financial irregularities in institutions such as the Jammu & Kashmir Bank and the Jal Jeevan Mission. “Any selective approach to addressing these allegations would not be justified,” Sharma emphasized.
While acknowledging the importance of development and welfare schemes, the Congress underscored the need for the government to expedite ongoing projects and fulfill promises made to the people of Jammu & Kashmir. They called upon the Prime Minister to prioritize the completion of vital projects, including the Jammu-Poonch railway project, before the announcement of general elections.
The criticism from Congress highlights the challenges faced by the government in addressing the multifaceted issues affecting Jammu & Kashmir and underscores the expectations of the local populace for tangible solutions from the government.
The Congress party’s critique comes in the wake of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jammu & Kashmir, during which he unveiled several developmental projects and addressed various issues concerning the region. However, the opposition’s response indicates dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of critical issues and its failure to meet the expectations of the people.
