In a significant crackdown on drug peddlers in District Jammu, the District Police executed a successful seizure of movable property valued at approximately ₹5 lakhs.
The operation targeted the assets of individuals associated with notorious drug peddler Rohit Dutta, sending a strong message against illicit drug trafficking in the region.
District Police Jammu spokesperson, issued a statement regarding the operation, stating, “Today, our team conducted a meticulously planned operation aimed at curbing the activities of drug peddlers in the district. As a result, we have seized a private car owned by the spouse of Rohit Dutta, a known perpetrator of drug-related crimes in the area.”
The property, identified as proceeds of narcotics from ill-gotten gains acquired through illicit drug trafficking, was uncovered during a thorough investigation conducted by a dedicated police team from Akhnoor Subdivision. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural Brijesh Sharma emphasized the importance of such operations in combating the drug menace, stating, “Our relentless efforts to eradicate drug trafficking from District Jammu are ongoing. We will continue to take strict action against individuals involved in such criminal activities.”
The operation was conducted under sections 68 A (d) and E read with 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985, which authorize the attachment of properties belonging to family members, relatives, and associates of accused individuals engaged in drug peddling. SDPO Akhnoor, Mohan Sharma, elaborated on the legal provisions, stating, “This operation was executed in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act, which allow for the attachment of properties associated with drug trafficking.”
The property seizure comes in the wake of the detention of Rohit Dutta under the PIT NDPS Act, following a warrant issued by Divisional Commissioner Jammu. Dutta, who is currently lodged in the district jail in Kathua, faces multiple charges related to drug peddling. “We have several cases against Rohit Dutta, including serious charges of drug trafficking. This seizure is a significant blow to his criminal activities,” stated SHO Akhnoor, Tariq Ahmed.
The operation has been hailed by locals as a proactive step towards creating a safer and drug-free environment in District Jammu. “We commend the efforts of the District Police in cracking down on drug peddlers. Such operations are essential to ensure the well-being of our community,” remarked a resident of Akhnoor.
