Transporters operating on the Jammu-R S Pura and Jammu-Akhnoor routes have halted their services today, alleging backstabbing by the Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Rahul Yadav. The transporters claim that Yadav has allowed the operation of e-buses on these routes, despite assurances that the e-buses would only ply on un-catered routes.

Addressing the media at the warehouse in Jammu, a representative of the bus operators’ union expressed their grievances. “We had three to four meetings with Commissioner JMC Rahul Yadav, who assured us that e-buses will be run on un-catered routes. However, he has suddenly broken his promises and started operations on routes where our buses are already plying,” the representative said.

The transporters have stopped their bus services on the Jammu-R S Pura and Jammu-Akhnoor roads in protest. The representative hoped that operators on other routes would soon join their strike. The transporters argued that there are numerous routes where no public transportation is available, and the JMC should deploy its fleet in those areas. However, they claimed that the Commissioner has chosen areas where private transporters are already providing services.

The strike by the transporters has caused inconvenience to commuters who rely on these routes for their daily travel. Travelers have been left stranded, and many have had to seek alternative modes of transportation or make alternate arrangements.

The JMC Commissioner, Rahul Yadav, has not yet responded to the allegations made by the transporters. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold and whether negotiations will take place to resolve the impasse.

The transporters’ strike highlights the ongoing tensions between private operators and the authorities over the introduction of e-buses and the potential impact on their livelihoods. It also underscores the need for effective communication and coordination between stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition to more sustainable modes of public transportation while addressing the concerns of existing service providers.

As the standoff continues, commuters remain caught in the crossfire, bearing the brunt of the disruption in services. Resolving the dispute amicably and finding a balanced solution that addresses the needs of all parties involved is crucial for restoring normalcy and ensuring the seamless operation of public transportation in the region.
