Court has granted five-day remands to BJP leader and sitting Councillor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in bribery case, after Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) yesterday caught councillor’s husband while accepting bribe.
Meanwhile, sources in BJP said that the Councillor has been expelled from party for her involvement in corruption case. On Saturday, the Special Judge ACB Jammu Ritesh Dubey granted five-day remand of Jyoti Devi, Councillor Ward no. 53 of JMC and her husband Sham Lal.
The Couple was arrested on Friday by the ACB. The ACB team acting upon a complaint filed a contractor alleging that the husband of the elected member of JMC was demanding Rs 10000 for issuing a no objection certificate (NOC). On the basis of a complaint the ACB laid a trap and arrested the same person while accepting bribe. Councillor Jyoti Devi was affiliated to BJP, but the party taking disciplinary action against the leaders accused of corruption, has reportedly on Saturday expelled her from party. By arresting a siting Councillor, the LG administration and the ACB have given clear message that corruption will not be tolerated at any cost in the system.
