Another criminal has escaped from police custody at a court in Jammu District, less than a month after a similar incident occurred.
“Taking cognizance of this grave lapse, we have placed PSI Mashkoor Giri and Havaldar Surinder Singh, posted at Nagrota Police Station, under suspension. Additionally, SPO Mukesh Sharma attached to District Police Line has been suspended,” A senior police officer stated.
According to the police sources, the accused, Basharat Hussain of Thannamandi, Rajouri, had been arrested by a team from Police Post Jagti in connection with two theft cases, one registered at the same police post.
“Hussain was presented before the court, where his custody was given to Nagrota Police Station. However, the moment he exited the courtroom, the accused attacked and injured a police official before escaping on a motorcycle driven by an accomplice who was waiting for him,” the official source revealed.
Notably, this is the second such incident within a month in Jammu. “On March 22 this year, an NDPS detainee, Balraj Singh of Sehora Tehsil, Amritsar, Punjab, had also escaped from police custody when he was presented in a local court for a hearing,” the police official added.
