In a spectacular ceremony at the Capt Devashish Sharma, Kirti Chakra Parade Ground, the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune commissioned 112 medical graduates from its 58th batch into the Indian Armed Forces today.
The solemn parade was reviewed by the Chief Guest, Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical Corps. The parade itself was commanded by newly commissioned Lt Sushil Kumar Singh. Addressing the new officers, Lt Gen Singh congratulated them and exhorted them to serve the nation and armed forces with utmost dedication, wishing them a bright future ahead. The 58th AFMC batch performed exceptionally in the recent MUHS exams, with a total of 147 cadets graduating, including 5 from friendly foreign countries. Of the 112 commissioned today, 87 are gentlemen cadets and 25 are lady cadets. 88 joined the Army Medical Corps, 10 the Navy, and 14 the Air Force. The ceremony also saw academic excellence awarded, with Flying Officer Ayush Jaiswal receiving the President’s Gold Medal and Surgeon Sub Lt Bani Kaur the prestigious Kalinga Trophy.
Ranked among the top 5 medical colleges nationally, the AFMC was awarded the President’s Colour in 2023 for 75 years of glorious service and the Chief of Defence Staff Unit Citation earlier this year. Senior officers, veterans, faculty, cadets, parents and families attended the memorable event organized under the leadership of Lt Gen Narendra Kotwal, Director & Commandant, and Maj Gen Giriraj Singh, Dean & Deputy Commandant of AFMC.
