The nomination process for the Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency witnessed significant activity today as two candidates, including a former MLA currently in custody, filed their nomination papers for the upcoming General Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
Mudasir Ahmad Tantray, an independent candidate hailing from Handwara, was the first to present his nomination before the Returning Officer for the 1-Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency, Minga Sherpa. Later in the day, nomination papers were submitted on behalf of another independent candidate, Abdul Rashid Sheikh from Langate, at the office of the Returning Officer. Sheikh, a former MLA, is presently imprisoned.
The entry of these two candidates into the electoral fray sets the stage for a multi-cornered contest in the Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency, known for its history of intense political competition.
