In a disciplinary action, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba has disengaged three Special Police Officers (SPOs) from service for dereliction of duties and their alleged involvement in a case related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The action was taken by the SSP Vinay Sharma after disposing of two separate departmental enquiries initiated against the three SPOs, along with other officers and officials. According to sources, the departmental probes found the SPOs guilty of dereliction of duties and their purported links with drug peddlers operating in the district. The names of the disengaged SPOs have not been officially released by the authorities yet. This move by the Samba police comes amid increased efforts to weed out corruption and maintain discipline within the ranks of the force. The dismissal of the three SPOs is seen as a strong message from the top brass that any misconduct, neglect of duty, or involvement in illegal activities will not be tolerated.
In recent months, Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken various measures to enhance accountability and restore public faith in the law enforcement agency. The disengagement of the SPOs is likely to be followed by further disciplinary proceedings if their involvement in drug-related activities is conclusively established during the investigation.
