In a fresh push to bring Hassan MP and JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna back to India, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to cancel Mr. Revanna’s diplomatic passport.

This is the second letter the CM has written to the PM on this matter. In the letter dated May 22, Mr. Siddaramaiah stated, “I urge you to kindly consider this matter with utmost seriousness, take prompt and necessary actions to cancel the diplomatic passport of Mr. Prajwal Revanna under section 10(3)(h) of the Passport Act of 1967 or under any other relevant law and secure his return to the country in the interest of the public.”
Mr. Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, is believed to be in Europe since April 27 and is allegedly involved in multiple cases of sexual abuse. The Chief Minister accused him of “abusing his diplomatic privileges to flee the country and escape criminal proceedings” shortly after the allegations surfaced.
“It is shameful that Mr. Prajwal Revanna…fled the country on April 27, 2024, to Germany using his diplomatic passport bearing the number D1135500 shortly after news of his heinous action emerged and just few hours before the FIR was filed against him,” Mr. Siddaramaiah wrote in his letter. The CM has urged the PM to take “prompt and concerted actions” beyond canceling the passport to secure Mr. Revanna’s return to India to face the law. He emphasized that Mr. Revanna has been accused of being involved in “a grave series of incidents.” The Karnataka government has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the sexual abuse cases against the JD(S) leader, who was also the party’s candidate from Hassan for the 2024 general elections.
