In a major achievement towards public service and recovery of valuable property, the Jammu Police have successfully reunited citizens with their lost smartphones over the past four months. Recognizing the emotional and personal bond that people share with their communication devices, the specialized Tech/ESU team of Jammu Police’s South Zone has worked tirelessly to trace, locate, and recover 50 smartphones worth more than 18 lakh rupees.
The missing reports of these lost smartphones were recorded in different police stations and police posts across the South Zone of Jammu. The ESU action team, under the command of SP City South, Jammu, and the overall supervision of SSP Jammu, embarked on a dedicated mission to reunite the devices with their rightful owners.
In a simple yet heartwarming function held in the office premises of SP South, the recovered smartphones were handed over to their owners in the presence of SDPO South, SDPO East, and SHO Gandhinagar. The reunion was an emotional moment for the owners, who were overjoyed to reconnect with their lost devices, which contained precious memories in the form of pictures and other personal information.
The owners expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the work of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, thanking the entire team and the police hierarchy for their efforts in bringing back their lost mobile phones.
To ensure proper verification, the traced smartphones were handed over to their owners only after re-verifying their identity documents and mobile bills. SP South, Sh. Ajay Sharma, utilized the occasion to advise the public on the importance of taking due care of communication devices such as smartphones, which contain not only contacts but also a wealth of personal information, including photographs, emails, text messages, and financial details.
Sharma advised the public to implement strong security measures, such as the use of strong passwords and PINs to lock phone screens, keeping software updated, activating remote tracking and wiping features, and enabling two-factor authentication.
The public, in general, highly appreciated the operation “Re-CONNECT” launched by the Jammu Police, which has not only reunited them with their lost devices but also demonstrated the force’s dedication to serving the community and ensuring the safety and security of their valuable possessions.
