The joint endeavor has resulted in the confiscation of a substantial 2.04 kilograms of heroin from the apprehended individuals. The arrests were effectuated in the Chingus area, strategically located along the Rajouri-Jammu Highway, where the accused individuals were intercepted in their brazen attempt to smuggle the heroin consignment across the border. The apprehended suspects have been identified as Sajad Hussain, son of Munir Hussain, hailing from Thandikassi, Rajouri, and Mohammad Anwar, son of Fateh Mohammad, a resident of the notorious Chitti Bakri area. Both individuals had previously been employed as porters with the Indian Army.
Acting on credible intelligence that a resident of Rajouri’s Chitti Bakri area, situated precariously adjacent to the LoC, was en route to facilitate the delivery of a heroin consignment from across the border in Rajouri, accompanied by a former porter from Thandikassi, the NCB team swiftly mobilized. In close coordination with the BSF’s G Branch, a strategic raid was executed at a suspected location in Rajouri’s Chingus area, culminating in the successful apprehension of the two smugglers. During the meticulous search operation, the law enforcement authorities unearthed and confiscated the substantial quantity of 2.04 kilograms of heroin from the possession of the arrested individuals. Reliable sources have revealed that the apprehended smugglers had formerly served as porters with the Indian Army, but their employment was terminated due to suspected illicit activities, prompting their disengagement by the military establishment.
The Chitti Bakri area, perilously situated in close proximity to the LoC, has garnered notoriety as a hotbed for various illegal activities, with previous instances of drug and arms smuggling, as well as infiltration attempts, having been reported. Authorities are currently engaged in concerted efforts to trace and apprehend other potential associates of the arrested smugglers, subjecting them to rigorous interrogation and investigation. The arrests of former Army porters involved in drug smuggling activities serve as a stark reminder of the imperative need for stringent security measures and heightened vigilance to curb the exploitation of their familiarity with border areas for nefarious purposes. The substantial seizure of the heroin consignment represents a significant blow to the drug trafficking networks operating in the region and stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of various agencies in safeguarding national security and public safety. As the investigation continues to unfold, authorities remain steadfast in their pursuit of dismantling the intricate web of drug smugglers and their associates, driven by an unwavering resolve to eradicate the scourge of narcotics trafficking from the region and ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
