The Indian Army has launched a monumental motorcycle expedition across the country to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its victory in the Kargil War of 1999, a Defence Spokesperson has announced.

Titled the “Indian Army ‘D5’ Motorcycle Expedition,” the initiative aims to pay tribute to the valor and sacrifices of the Kargil heroes while showcasing the Armed Forces’ significant contribution and honoring their legacy.

According to the Spokesperson, three teams of eight motorcyclists each have embarked on this historic journey from three corners of the nation-Dinjan in the East, Dwarka in the West, and Dhanushkodi in the South. “These riders will traverse diverse terrains and challenging routes, symbolizing the unity and resilience of our Armed Forces,” the Spokesperson stated. The Eastern Route will cover approximately 2,489 kilometers, passing through cities like Jorhat, Guwahati, Katihar, Lucknow, and Agra before reaching Delhi. The Western Route, spanning around 1,565 kilometers, will take the riders through Dhrangadhra, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Jaipur. The Southern Route, the longest at approximately 2,963 kilometers, will traverse Madurai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nagpur, and Bhopal.

“On their way, the riders will reach out to Kargil War heroes, Veterans, and Veer Naris (war widows) who are residing at various places enroute,” the Spokesperson revealed. “They will also pay homage at War Memorials enroute, raise awareness, and encourage youth to join the Indian Army.”

The three teams will converge in Delhi on June 26 and proceed towards Dras, the site of the iconic Kargil War battles, along two different routes-one through Ambala, Amritsar, Jammu, and Srinagar, covering 1,085 kilometers, and the other via Chandimandir, Manali, Sarchu, Nyoma, and Leh, spanning 1,509 kilometers. The expedition will culminate at Gun Hill in Dras, a strategic location during the Kargil War, retracing the paths of bravery and serving as a reminder of the soldiers’ relentless spirit and dedication. Flag-off and flag-in ceremonies featuring senior military officials, Veterans, Veer Naris, and distinguished guests will be conducted at prominent locations along the route to felicitate the riders and the cause they represent. The expedition is being led by the Regiment of Artillery, which played a pivotal role in Operation Vijay with its precision, firepower, and strategic support.

“As the riders travel through the length and breadth of the country, they will carry with them the stories of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism,” the Spokesperson stated. “This expedition is not just a tribute but a symbol of the enduring spirit of the Indian Army.”
