The Special Investigating Agency (SIA), of J&K Police arrested terrorists, involved in killing of Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq Shah, who was gun downed at this home around 33 years ago.
The SIA tracked and arrested two absconding terrorists in killing of separatist leaders and handed over to CBI to face further trial, Special DG J&K Police, Rashmi Ranjan Swain, told media during a press conference at Srinagar on Tuesday.
“Five terrorists were involved in the killing of Mirwaiz Farooq, are Abdullah Bangroo and Rehman Shigan had got killed in encounters and couldn’t face trial. Ayub Dar underwent trial and convicted for life, currently serving sentence in Srinagar central jail. Terrorists Javaid Bhat and Zahoor Bhat were absconding and hence escaped trial and now apprehended”, said CID Chief, who is also director SIA.
“In a significant operation, SIA of J&K Police have arrested both the absconding terrorists, Javaid Ahmad Bhat code Ajmal Khan son of Late Habibullah Bhat resident of Solina Bala, at present Azad Basti Natipora Srinagar and Zahoor Ahmad Bhat code Bilal son of Late Mohamad Ramzan Bhat resident of Danderkhaw Batamalo Srinagar who were absconding after murdering Mirwaiz on 21 May 1990”, he said.
“The two had gone underground and during all these years were variously hiding in Nepal and Pakistan among other places before surreptitiously returning back to Kashmir few years ago. Maintaining a low profile, changing addresses and shifting residences, they avoided the gaze of law enforcement agencies”, he added.
