Condemning custodial torture of a Sikh cop, the District Gurudwara Prabandk Committee (DGPC) Jammu today demanded suspension of SHO Poonch, Ranjit Rao and PSI Arun Singh Andotra.
Addressing a press conference, here DGPC President Jammu S Ranjeet Singh Tohra along with S Balvinder Singh Vice President, S Surjit Singh Secretary, S Harjit Singh Incharge Dharam Parchar Committee strongly condemned the brutal torture of Sikh Cop of Poonch S Jagvinder Singh at Poonch by SHO Poonch Ranit Rao & PSI Arun Singh Andotra.
S Ranjit Singh Tohra expressed great resentment and anguish over the misuse of power by none other than the police officer sitting on the responsible post and entrusted with the job of implementation the law of the land. Singh further stated that such blacksheep in the Police department bad name to the whole department. He further urged upon the senior Police officials to take immediate action by suspending both the accused police officers to restore the confidence of general public especially the minority communities.
S Balvinder Singh Vice President along with S Surjit Singh and S Harjit Singh member DGPC while narrating the whole episode said that on 28.05.23 when Jagvinder Singh, as per the information available, went to the market to bring medicine for his ailing mother and on his way back to home he saw a scuffle two unknown groups of people in the presence of SHO and other Police authorities, in the meantime SHO confronted with S Jagvinder Singh and enquired why he is standing there to which he replied that since his house is located in the vicinity and is going there to deliver medicine to his ailing mother but it is very unfortunate the SHO didn’t consider the reply by the victim and started manhandling and dragged him to Police Station with the help of his associates especially PSI Arun Singh Andotra without considering the plea of the victim that he too belongs JK Police and is serving as selection grade constable. In the police station SHO & PSI used third degree torture to the victim and beat him up mercilessly causing grievous injury to his body that also include giving him electric shocks by teaser gun. It is pertinent to mention S Jogvinder Singh the victim of the episode is a distinguished sports person in the field of Boxing and won number of medals at State and national and brought laurels to the JK Police as well as the State. It is a matter of grave concern that such a serious misconduct, arrogance and misuse of authority has been committed and brazenly displayed by the SHPO and above stated PSI.
