As the UT of the Jammu and Kashmir after August 2019 installed the post-paid smart meters across the Jammu and Kashmir.
There are several areas in Jammu as well as in Kashmir where still the post-paid smart meters are being installed, despite government’s promise to complete the process in year 2023. In some areas of Jammu and Kashmir as per reports customers thwarted the process of installation of the Smart meters. But Power development department defeated their attempts and Carried out the installation of the Smart meters.
Now, after the passage of one year since the installation of Smart meters in some areas of Jammu Customers are paying the money through their noose without any hiccups as of now. As the electricity tariff charged as per the consumption of the electricity. Rather Customers rued the installation of Smart meters usage of electricity tariff as they couldn’t able to pay such exorbitant tariff. Customers vehemently rued that they have to cough up the money more now given the government move on the installation of Smart meters.
But now, government started the process of charging the tariff of electricity through Pre paid mode meaning there by Customers have to now paid the tariff by doing recharge online through the department official website and even the department also given the QR code where the customers have to clicked the picture of it and make the recharge of the electricity ensure hassle free. Even in some areas JPDCL Officials deployed by the department to the different Municipal wards to apprise the customers about the new mode of paying tariff that is pre-paid mode. As per customers, Officials brought with them the page where in written the procedure to be adopted by the customers while doing recharge of the electricity through pre-paid mode.

When contacted, Chief Engineer JPDCL Distribution and Generation said, “I am busy at this moment so later I will see then cut the call.”
Executive Engineer III Sub division Romesh Raina on being contacted said, “Better to take information regarding the pre-paid mode electricity tariff through Chief Engineer or the Superintending Engineer as it is policy matter.”
When scribe said that he seeks information as to how the procedure of pre-paid power tariff works so that Public get acquainted with the same, the Executive Engineer told that he is incharge of One sub division as such not able to apprise you much about this. He reiterated this scribe to call Chief Engineer, who was not willing to answer quires.
