In a devastating incident that has sent shockwaves across the state, the death toll from a hooch tragedy in Kallakurichi has climbed to 34 as of Thursday morning, June 20th. Approximately 100 others have been hospitalized, with five individuals reported to be in critical condition.

The tragedy unfolded on Tuesday night, June 18th, when numerous victims consumed spurious liquor at Karunapuram in Kallakurichi. Subsequent investigations revealed the presence of methanol in the illicit brew, prompting swift action from the authorities. M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, took to social media platform X to express his anguish over the heartbreaking incident. “The Kallakurichi incident, which has caused me so much pain, is something that should not have happened,” he shared on his official handle @mkstalin. “I am monitoring all the steps being taken.”

In his statement, Stalin assured the public that high-quality treatment is being provided to those undergoing care in the hospital. He also announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased victims, acknowledging the immense loss they have suffered.

Further actions have been taken to investigate the matter thoroughly. Stalin revealed that he has ordered the establishment of a one-man committee headed by retired High Court Justice B. Gokuldas to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the tragedy.

Additionally, the Chief Minister stated that the Ministers, Home Secretary, Director of Police, and other officials are visiting the affected areas in person to monitor the situation closely. According to reports from The Indian Express, the police have arrested Govindaraj alias Kannukutty, the supplier of the spurious liquor, who has previous cases against him related to similar offenses. As the state grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event, authorities are working tirelessly to provide support to the victims and their families, as well as to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice swiftly.

Meanwhile, Actor Vijay, has taken a firm stance against the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government over the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. Through his social media platforms, Vijay has voiced his discontent, slamming the authorities for their failure to prevent such devastating incidents from occurring.

While many public figures have chosen to remain silent on this sensitive issue, Vijay has proven himself to be a man of unwavering courage and conviction. Vijay’s vocal criticism serves as a rallying call for transparency and effective measures to safeguard the lives and well-being of the citizens, regardless of potential backlash or repercussions.
