In a significant counter-terrorism operation, three unidentified militants were killed in a gunfight in the Sinoo area of Gandoh in Doda district on Wednesday.
The encounter, which commenced following a precise intelligence input, has also resulted in the neutralization of two more terrorists, bringing the total to five in the ongoing joint operation in the Gandoh-Bhaderwah sector of the district.
The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, Anand Jain, confirmed the developments through a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that two more terrorists have been neutralized in the ensuing gunfight.
“Three militants have been killed so far while a search operation is still underway in the area. The identity of the militants will be ascertained once the operation concludes. Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the militants’ possession. Among the recovered items is a US-made M4 rifle, underscoring the sophistication of the weaponry involved,” a police officer engaged in the encounter reported. The officer further highlighted that the militants opened fire on the approaching security forces, which triggered the gunfight.
The operation began when a joint team of police and security forces launched a cordon and search mission in the Sinoo area, acting on specific intelligence regarding militant activity. As the joint team neared the suspected hideout, they came under fire from the militants, leading to the intense encounter. Security forces are maintaining a tight cordon around the area as they continue their search operations to ensure that no militants escape. The encounter is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to maintain peace and stability in the region by neutralizing militant threats.
The operation has been closely monitored by senior police and security officials, who have commended the bravery and precision of the forces involved. Further details are expected as the search operation progresses and the identities of the neutralized militants are established.
