Reacting to BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi’s allegations that Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi pushed him and other MPs, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah came out in strong defense of Gandhi, saying he cannot do that.

I know Rahul, he would not push anyone much less a member of parliament. It’s simply not in his nature to be rude or nasty to anyone. https://t.co/t0zCaQRvHT

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Omar Abdullah expressed disbelief at Sarangi’s claims, stating, “I know Rahul; he would not push anyone, much less a member of parliament. It’s simply not in his nature to be rude or nasty to anyone.” His remarks came in response to a post by ANI sharing Sarangi’s statement.

Sarangi had earlier alleged, “Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP who fell on me, after which I fell down. I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP, who then fell on me.” The BJP MP’s statement has sparked a political war of words, with Congress leaders rejecting the allegations as a fabricated attempt to malign Gandhi’s image.

Congress leadership is demanding CCTV footage of the incident, as parliament is under surveillance of CCTVs. “Parliament is equipped with an extensive CCTV network where even a bird’s movement is captured. Despite this, the BJP is weaving a web of lies! I challenge them to show the CCTV footage of Rahul Gandhi pushing someone—let the truth come out. But they won’t show it here or in the Rajya Sabha; instead, they’ll continue spinning fabricated stories. No matter how many lies are told, the truth remains untouchable,” Congress leader Supriya Shrinate posted on X.

The incident allegedly took place amidst heated moments in Parliament, though details remain unclear. Opposition leaders have accused the BJP of creating unnecessary controversies to divert attention from pressing national issues. As the row escalates, Gandhi’s office has yet to release an official statement addressing Sarangi’s allegations.

Meanwhile, Abdullah’s strong defense underscores the growing solidarity among opposition leaders in countering claims they perceive as politically motivated. With both sides standing firm, the controversy adds another layer of tension to an already charged political atmosphere in the country.

While the rupee takes a nosedive against the dollar and the Home Minister waxes lyrical about Dr. BR Ambedkar, BJP MPs are apparently finding the world’s safest parliament a bit too hazardous for comfort.
