In a embarrassment for Jammu & Kashmir, Kiran Wattal, former Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner and President of the J&K Gymnastics Association (JKGA), has been expelled from his position as Chef-de-Mission (CDM) for J&K at the National Games in Dehradun over allegations of misconduct.
Sources revealed that Wattal, allegedly, used abusive and unparliamentary language towards players, volunteers, and the organizing committee members. Following multiple complaints, the Core Organizing Committee took swift action and removed him from his role. Rajesh Dutta has now been appointed to oversee his responsibilities.
Wattal’s registration and title as Chef-de-Mission were officially revoked by the Core Organizing Committee after receiving serious complaints of high-handedness and verbal abuse. “Volunteers, players, and organizing committee members lodged a complaint, leading to his immediate expulsion,” insider sources informed The Hidden News.
A senior sportsperson from J&K, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “Kiran Wattal is known for his rude behavior and use of unparliamentary language. His appointment as Chef-de-Mission was questionable, as the position is usually reserved for state ministers or eminent figures. His removal was necessary to uphold the dignity of J&K’s representation at the National Games.”
Wattal’s controversial past also includes facing a vigilance case during his tenure as JMC Commissioner, further tarnishing his reputation. His latest expulsion has raised serious concerns over the selection process for such prestigious roles.
Efforts to reach Sunita Kumari, Chairperson of the Game Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC), for her comments remained unsuccessful. Calls and messages seeking her response were unanswered, and a query has been sent to her WhatsApp for any further clarification.
This incident has not only brought disrepute to J&K’s sporting contingent but also raised questions about accountability and the selection of officials for key positions in national sporting events. The authorities must now reassess their appointment process to prevent such disgraceful episodes in the future.
“These allegations are baseless rumors,” Kiran Wattal said, dismissing reports of his expulsion from the National Games. “I am currently engaged with some personal work, and in my absence, Deputy Chef-de-Mission Mr. Rajesh Dutta is temporarily overseeing the responsibilities. I will be resuming my duties within the next two to three days.”
