The construction of the bridge over the Chenab at Maitra, Ramban, has been delayed due to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) not permitting its intersection with the four-lane Ramban flyover, which carries high-speed motorized traffic. Consequently, the bridge’s height is now being raised, and it is expected to be completed by August 2026.
In a written reply to a question by Ramban MLA Arjun Singh Raju, the government informed the Assembly that the bridge, sanctioned under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), faced delays due to the NHAI’s objections. As a result, the bridge is now being realigned to intersect with the old National Highway (NH), leading to an increase in its height by 8.5 meters and an extension of its span by 30 meters, bringing the total span to 300 meters.
The foundation of both abutments has been completed, with significant progress on both sides. On the Maitra side, a gantry has been installed, and casting work is underway. On the Ramban side, pierhead work is in progress, and the casting of segment and deck slabs has commenced. The project has gained momentum as the contractor has mobilized additional manpower and machinery. Out of the sanctioned cost of ₹4,178 lakh, an amount of ₹2,110 lakh has been released to the contractor so far. Authorities have assured that with the current pace of work, the bridge is on track for completion by August 2026.
