The Post-Graduate department of Orthopaedics, Government Medical College, Jammu conducted a two days post-graduate teaching course under the aegis of Indian Orthopaedic association (IOA) on 12th & 13th of August, 2022.
The course was conducted under the patronship of Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma, Principal and dean Government Medical College, Jammu. In her inaugural speech, she lauded the department of Orthopaedics for conducting the course. She said that the institution is always encouraging such kind of academic activities. Eminent national faculty graced the occasion with their presence and taught the resident doctors about key clinical and practical aspects of history taking and examination. Many patients were discussed by the Post-Graduate doctors and thorough discussions were carried out among the faculty members regarding their treatment plan. The course was organised under the chairmanship of Dr Sanjeev Gupta, Professor & Head Department of Orthopaedics. Dr Abdul Ghani, professor & head of the unit, was the organising secretary of the course. Dr Bias Dev and Dr Muhammad Farooq Bhat were the co-organising secretaries of the course.
The star studded national faculty included Dr Lalit Maini, Professor department of Orthopaedics MAMC Delhi & Editor Indian journal of Orthopaedics; Dr Uday Kumar Boddapalli, member of IOA Indian PG teaching committee from Vishakhapatnam; Dr Harpal Selhi, Professor DMC Ludhiana; Dr Rajesh Gupta, professor & Head department of Orthopaedics ASCOMS Jammu and member PG teaching committee of IOA; Dr Sarvdeep Singh Dhatt, Professor department of orthopaedics PGIMER Chandigarh; Dr Rajinder Singh, Ex-Professor and HOD GMC Jammu; Dr Rajesh Kapila, Professor and Head GMC Amritsar; Dr Vipin Sharma, Professor and Head department of Orthopaedics, GMC Tanda; Dr Sandeep Kumar, Professor and Head department of Orthopaedics HIMSR Delhi.
Around 70 Post-graduate Orthopaedic doctors from Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and J&K participated in the course and learned tips and tricks of treating patients of various Orthopaedic diseases. The aim of the course was to upgrade Orthopaedic doctors in the North Zone and teach them regarding the recent trends in the management of patients. This course will go a long way in improving skills of post-graduate doctors in the region and benefit the patients and general population in the long run. Indian Orthopaedic association (IOA), which is the apex national body of Orthopaedic surgeons in India, is aiming to bring a uniform standard of training of Orthopaedic doctors through these courses. Department of Orthopaedics GMC Jammu was chosen as one of the ten centers in India to conduct such training courses. Dr Ratnakar Sharma, Head department of surgery GMC Jammu; Dr ADS Manhas, Medical superintendent GMC Hospital and Dr Kailash Thakur, Consultant Surgery GMC Jammu were guests in the course.
