Amidst raging controversy erupted over the passing of order by the Waqf Board, banning forcible donations at Ziyarats, has fuelled the anger amongst the political parties in general and civil society in particular. The political parties unequivocally termed the order passed by the waqf board as single handily without taking them into board which is a brazen attempt to interfere in the religious affairs of the religion.

Political parties cutting across party lines have they termed that Constitution of India permitted us that there be care takers in the shrines coupled with donations be given for the welfare and maintenance of shrines. It is beyond one’s comprehension as to why this unwarranted, uncalled order has been passed with a intent to hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslims fraternity.

Waqf board in a statement said, “We received scores of complaints of the people adding, due to which we banned the donations otherwise why we would ban the same.” Waqf Board cleares its position why it passed an order and it categorically stated they have complied with the complaints of the people and they not of their own acted. On Previous day waqf board along with their officials in the different revered shrines in Kashmir removed the donation boxes and also care takers of the shrines evicted from the shrines that they are no more the care takers now because order came from the department.

“Don’t understand what is the necessity for the waqf board to pass such an order which is an excellent undue interference in our religious affairs after all we are not doing anything illegal rather, we take care of the shrines since decades and no government ever raised fingers upon our working as this order came out of blue and it shell shocked us. “A group of Care takers rued and demanding that the government should at the earliest revoked such arbitrary order.

“Where shall we go now, they thrown us without adopting any due procedure of the law rather this government which other boast claims of transparency and accountability fallen flat as this is the latest case with us,” said the Care takers. Deputy Mayor, Srinagar Municipal Corporation ( SMC) Parvaiz Qadari lashes out at the Waqf Board’s decision and said on 27th December 1963 one incident happened of Moo Sharief at that time it was not under the waqf board rather waqf board came into existence in the year 1968″he divulged.

“From the year of 1968 Waqf board takes care of different shrines and before 1968 Sufi Shrines were under the control of Sajjada Nashin and today also Taburak given under the very supervision of Sajjada Nashin”, Deputy Mayor SMC dwelt upon the history of the Waqf board adding, but in the aftermath of this arbitrary order Sajjada Nashin ( Care takers) of Sufi shrines have been snatched which is really illogical. “Recalling the inferno engulfed the revered shrine of Peer Dastegeer sahib few years back”, he said it was government who paid the money to reconstruct the Shrine and Waqf Board not paid anything. He said only Waqf interfered and not contributed and in the year 2003 Mufti Mohd Sayeed rechristened the name of Muslim Auquaf trust to Waqf board. Qadari made an appeal to the Government and the Chairperson Waqf board to kindly revoked this order at the earliest in the interest of the Care takers.
