In a proactive move, District Samba Police intercepted a truck loaded with liquor of various brands within the jurisdiction of Vijaypur Police Station.
The operation, conducted during routine vehicle checks near Rahya Morh, led to the apprehension of two individuals and the confiscation of a significant quantity of alcohol. A police team from Police Station Vijaypur, led by SHO Insp Zaheer Mushtaq, was conducting vehicle checks at a special checkpoint when they stopped a TATA-207 Mobile with registration No. JK02CA-2545, inbound from Jammu. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 253 carton boxes concealed within the vehicle, containing a total of 8998 bottles of liquor from different brands, amounting to approximately 2277 litres.
The transport of such a large quantity of liquor violated prohibitory orders issued by the District Magistrate of Samba ahead of the second phase of Parliament Elections-2024. Consequently, the accused individuals, identified as Kuldeep Raj and Chaman Lal were promptly arrested. A case has been registered against the accused under FIR No. 60/2024 U/S 188 IPC and 48 (a) of the Excise Act at Police Station Vijaypur, with investigations currently underway.
This swift action by the District Samba Police highlights their commitment to enforcing electoral regulations and maintaining public order ahead of the elections.
