“If anything, bad happens to my reputation and safety, Dilbagh Singh will be responsible” Rath tweets. He also tried to grab attention of his followers and government over Dilbagh’s long term stay as DGP, by mentioning his date joining as JKP Chief. In past several attempts have been to defame Dilbagh in alleged corruption by a section of media to settle their scores.
Suspended in July 2020 for “gross misconduct and misbehaviour” Basant Kumar Rath, a senior IPS officer (RR-2000) few days after tendering his resignation and expressing his desire to join BJP and contest polls from Kashmir on party’s ticket, in the intervening night of 27-28 June through a social media post has targeted his senior colleague and DGP J&K Dilbagh Singh.
Rath in his tweet has alleged, “Dear friends, if anything bad happens to my reputation and safety, Dilbagh Singh (son of Balbir Singh), the IPS office who has been the Police Chief in J and K since 31/10/2018 (present Pay Scale-Level-17), will be responsible.”
Prior to his suspension, Rath had used to write for the Indian Express, The Wire and other national media outlet. His writeups for different media outlet, found offenses and against Civil Service Rules.
The Union Home Ministry, taking the matter seriously had ordered an enquiry and placed Rath under suspension. Since then, he was silent, now after sending his resignation to Chief Secretary JK UT, he once again opened front against the DGP Dilbagh Singh.
Rath in many social media posts and articles published in different media houses, had targeted DGP Dilbagh Singh. In June 2020 Rath had already expressed apprehension of threats from DGP Dilbagh Singh, and had also sent a written complaint to SHO Gandhi Nagar for registration of case. But within two weeks after Rath’s allegations against the DGP, he was placed under suspension by the MHA.
