Amid concerns over potential attempts to disrupt the ongoing general elections and national security threats, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, R.R. Swain, paid a visit to the forward areas in the Karnah Sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Accompanied by ADGP L&O Vijay Kumar, DIG NKR Vivek Gupta, and SSP Kupwara Shobit Saxena, the DGP held discussions with Army officers to understand and analyze infiltration attempts and the current efforts to counter them. During the visit, DGP Swain was briefed by senior Army officers, including GOC 28 Div Maj Gen Girish Kalia, and Brig N.K. Dhas regarding the prevailing security situation and the measures in place to thwart any potential threats.

Seizing the opportunity, the DGP J&K held an interaction session with border police personnel from Police Post Teetwal and Police Post Taad, acknowledging their efforts in generating anti-infiltration intelligence and taking decisive action against narcotics smuggling.

Sharing a meal with the officers, constables, and Special Police Officers (SPOs), DGP Swain commended the recent efforts of the police force in gathering crucial intelligence and taking proactive steps to maintain security in the region.

The interaction session was attended by SP Ops Kupwara G.M. Bhat, 2-IC 6 Mahar Lt Col Rajbir Singh, Major Atul, DySP Headquarters Kupwara Mohd Amin Bhat, SHO Karnah Irshad Reshi, and SHO JIC Kupwara Reyaz, among others. The visit by the DGP J&K to the forward areas in Kupwara district underscores the heightened security measures being undertaken by the authorities to ensure the peaceful conduct of the general elections and counter any potential threats to national security. With intelligence inputs suggesting hostile intentions from across the border and the involvement of proxies within the region, the DGP’s visit aimed to boost the morale of the security forces and reinforce the commitment to maintaining law and order in the sensitive region. As the elections progress, the security apparatus in Jammu and Kashmir remains on high alert, with close coordination between the police and the Army to thwart any attempts at disruption or infiltration from across the border.
