In a significant move to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2024, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary of the Rural Development Department (RDD) and Panchayati Raj, conducted an extensive tour of Baltal today.
Dr. Choudhary, who serves as the Nodal Officer for SANJY via Baltal Axis, personally assessed the ongoing preparations for the pilgrimage. Accompanied by a team of high-ranking officials, including Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Shyambir and Director General of Rural Sanitation Anoo Malhotra, Dr. Choudhary inspected critical infrastructure and facilities. The delegation meticulously examined power and water supply arrangements, tent installations, public utilities, and sanitation measures.
During the inspection, the Secretary issued directives to various departments, emphasizing the importance of timely completion of all arrangements to ensure pilgrim convenience. A subsequent meeting with civil administration officials and Camp Directors allowed for a comprehensive review of the preparations.
Particular attention was paid to sanitation infrastructure, with Dr. Choudhary personally evaluating the functionality of toilets, washrooms, waste disposal systems, and other related facilities along the Baltal axis. He stressed the department’s commitment to providing a clean and hygienic environment for all pilgrims, instructing officials to ensure widespread access to top-notch sanitation facilities.
“Our primary goal is to offer the best possible experience to every Shri Amarnath Ji pilgrim,” Dr. Choudhary stated. “Cleanliness and proper sanitation are paramount to achieving this objective.” The Secretary also directed Camp Directors to conduct regular assessments of facilities within their respective camps. All concerned departments were instructed to complete any pending works well in advance of the Yatra’s commencement. This proactive approach by the Rural Development Department underscores the administration’s dedication to facilitating a safe and comfortable pilgrimage for the thousands expected to participate in the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2024.
