In a significant step towards modernizing law enforcement practices, the 14th batch of 89 police officers and officials from various units of Jammu District successfully completed a five-day crash course on the New Criminal Laws-2023 at the District Training Centre (DTC), District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu on June 24, 2024.

This intensive training program, initiated under the directives of the Police Headquarters J&K, aims to prepare law enforcement personnel for the implementation of the new criminal laws set to take effect from July 1, 2024. The course participants included Station House Officers (SHOs), Police Post In-charges, Investigating Officers, and other staff from various units of the Jammu District Police.

The primary objective of this crash course is to ensure that police personnel are well-versed with the key provisions of the new Criminal Laws-2023, enabling them to implement these laws effectively on the ground, both in letter and spirit. This proactive approach demonstrates the Jammu Police’s commitment to staying ahead of legal reforms and maintaining the highest standards of law enforcement.

SP Headquarters Jammu, Irshad H. Rather, who served as the Course Coordinator, attended the concluding ceremony along with DySP DAR Jammu, R.S. Kotwal. During the ceremony, SP Rather emphasized the importance of familiarizing oneself with all three new Criminal Laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita-2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita-2023 (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam-2023 (BSA). He stressed that a thorough understanding of these laws is crucial for enhancing law enforcement practices in the region.

The successful participants were awarded certificates, recognizing their dedication and completion of the intensive five-day training program. This gesture underscores the importance placed on continuous learning and professional development within the Jammu Police force. The completion of this 14th batch marks a significant milestone in the ongoing training initiative. Coupled with the conclusion of the 10th batch on “Practical Demos for Investigating Officers regarding New Criminal Laws & NDPS Act,” the Jammu Police has now successfully trained approximately 1,500 police personnel in the new Criminal Laws-2023 and advanced investigation techniques at the DTC, DPL Jammu.

This comprehensive training program reflects the Jammu Police’s commitment to fostering continuous learning and professional development among its personnel. By investing in the knowledge and skills of its officers, the Jammu Police aims to ensure the highest standards of service delivery and community policing. As the July 1, 2024 implementation date for the new criminal laws approaches, the Jammu Police stands well-prepared to adapt to these legal reforms. This proactive approach to training and development is expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement in the region, ultimately benefiting the community at large. The successful completion of this training program demonstrates the Jammu Police’s dedication to staying at the forefront of legal and procedural advancements in law enforcement. As the force continues to evolve and adapt to new challenges, such initiatives will play a crucial role in maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law in Jammu and beyond.
