The strategic “Golden Arc Road,” connecting South Kashmir/Jammu region to the West of Jammu Kashmir, achieved a significant milestone with the breakthrough ceremony for the Naushera Tunnel, a crucial component of the National Highway144A project. This development marks a substantial leap forward in bolstering regional connectivity and facilitating smoother transportation along the National Highway.

Naushera Tunnel Breakthrough:

The Naushera Tunnel, spanning an impressive 700 meters, plays a pivotal role in linking Akhnoor and Poonch, two vital districts in the region. Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, DG Border Roads, graced the breakthrough ceremony, highlighting the project’s significance in enhancing regional connectivity.

Progress on National Highway Project:

The breakthrough of the Naushera Tunnel follows the achievement of a similar milestone with the Kandi Tunnel on November 25, 2023. These breakthroughs underscore the concerted efforts of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in bolstering connectivity across Rajouri and Poonch.

Timeline and Completion Expectations:

The National Highway144A project, including the construction of critical tunnels, is progressing at a commendable pace. It is anticipated to be completed by 2026, well within the specified timeframe. Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan reaffirmed BRO’s commitment to advancing crucial road projects, such as the Jammu-Poonch link, which is poised for completion in the coming years.

Focus on Defence Infrastructure:

Addressing concerns about defence infrastructure along the Line of Control (LoC), Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan emphasized that the development of such infrastructure is a continuous process.

BRO remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening defence infrastructure by constructing and upgrading strategic roads along the International Border (IB), Line of Control (LC), and Line of Actual Control (LAC). Project Sampark, under BRO’s purview, aims to foster socio-economic progress and ensure the safety and well-being of citizens in its area of responsibility.

The Naushera Tunnel marks a significant stride in the advancement of critical infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir. With a focus on enhancing connectivity and bolstering defence infrastructure, initiatives like the National Highway144A project and Project Sampark underscore BRO’s dedication to fostering socio-economic progress and ensuring national security.
