Jammu and Kashmir National Panther Party, Supremo Prof Bhim Singh passed away this morning after a prolonged illness, at Hospital in Jammu on Tuesday morning. He was 81.
The family member of Prof Singh took him Government Medical College Jammu after complication developed this morning. But the doctors declared him brought dead around 8;45am. Born in Ramnagar area of princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in 1941 and founded Panther’s Party in 1982 with his wife Jaya Mala. Prof Singh remained Party Chairman for 30 years, until the passed the command to nephew Harsh Dev Singh in 2012. However, last year he retuned in active politic and re-elected as party chief.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolence on the demise of Prof Singh. Meanwhile other leaders of different political parties have also expressed their condolence on the demise of Prof Singh.

Student leader in Great Britain
During his travels Prof Singh attended the University of London earning an LL.M and was the first Indian to be elected Secretary of the University of London Union in 1971. Later in 1972, Bhim Singh was called to the bar at law, as a specialist on Palestine and Middle East affairs. Before returning to Jammu and Kashmir to engage in politics, Bhim Singh worked as a professor of international law at Cambridge University.
World tour on motorbike Prof Singh toured the world from 1967 to 1973. Mostly by the way of motorbike he managed to visit more than 120 countries. During his travels he was recorded by the Nigerian Times in 1970 as the first person to cross the Sahara Desert on motorcycle from Tan-Tan, Morocco to Senegal through Spanish Sahara and Mauritania.
Recent Controversy
Prof Singh in November 2020 was expelled from Party for taking part in a meeting of People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) held at former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah’s residence, Bathindi Jammu.
