In a day marked by intense counter-terrorism operations, security forces neutralized four militants, including a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander, in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Tragically, two soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during these operations.

The first encounter erupted in Modergam village after a joint team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Army, and local police launched a targeted operation based on specific intelligence about militant presence. As the security forces closed in on a house believed to be harboring at least two militants, they came under heavy fire. In the ensuing gunfight, one soldier sustained critical injuries and later succumbed during treatment.

Simultaneously, another operation unfolded in the Frisal area of Kulgam. Drone footage from the scene revealed the bodies of four militants following an intense exchange of fire. This encounter also claimed the life of an army soldier, while another was injured in the action. Sources within the security establishment report that up to four more militants may still be hiding in the area, prompting an expansion of the search and cordon operations. The identities of the slain militants are yet to be officially confirmed, but preliminary reports suggest that a high-ranking Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander was among those neutralized.

A senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the ongoing nature of the operations, stated, “These encounters demonstrate our commitment to rooting out terrorism from the region. While we mourn the loss of our brave soldiers, their sacrifice strengthens our resolve to ensure peace and security for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.” The twin operations highlight the continuing challenges faced by security forces in the region, as well as their determination to maintain law and order. Local authorities have urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and to report any suspicious activities. As the operations continue, additional security measures have been implemented in the surrounding areas to prevent any potential retaliatory actions by militant groups. The sacrifices made by the fallen soldiers serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks faced by security forces in their efforts to maintain peace in the region. This developing situation underscores the complex security landscape in Jammu and Kashmir, where despite significant progress in recent years, the threat of militancy continues to pose challenges to peace and stability.
